Lee Weiss' current research includes three bio-related focus areas: 1) Tissue Engineering -- involves the development of CAD/CAM systems that can fabricate biologically-inspired biomimetic scaffolds with 3D spatial patterns of growth factors, with a focus on bone regeneration. 2) MEMS sensors -- the development of 1) biological and chemical sensors to detect environmental toxins, and 2) implantable telemetry-based sensors for assessing tissue regeneration. 3) Computer-Aided Surgery -- the development of cost-effective, easy-to-use CAS systems for orthopedic applications. To effectively carry out this research, I work with multidisciplinary teams from The School of Computer Science (Robotics), The College of Engineering, and The Mellon College of Sciences.
