The PhD degree in Technological Change and Entrepreneurship is strongly international in orientation. Students will complete the first year of coursework in Lisbon, then spend the second year and part of the third year at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, before working on their dissertation research under joint supervision of collaborating academic advisers from Carnegie Mellon and the Portuguese partner institutions. Students must spend at least half of the time of their PhD in one of the Portuguese partner institutions.

The program is open to students from all over the world and designed to prepare students for top level research and policy positions in academia and industry. Up to five exceptional graduate students will be accepted each year from any area in business, engineering, technology studies and economics, and the social sciences, including sociology and psychology.
