Shuttle/Escort Schedules and Policy
- The university operates two separate transportation systems for the convenience and safety of our students the Shuttle Service and the Escort Service.
SHUTTLE The Shuttle Service operates two routes the Oakland route and the Pittsburgh Technology Center (PTC) route. The Oakland Shuttle The Oakland shuttle buses operate on a pre-established route that is determined by the locations of official university off-campus housing, and is subject to change from year to year. During the '07-'08 Academic Year, the Oakland shuttle will service Cathedral Mansions, Fairfax Apartments, London & Terrace Apartments, Veronica Apartments, Neville Apartments, Shady Oak Apartments and Webster Hall. The Oakland shuttle also stops at Mellon Institute/SEI (rear loading dock entrance on North Dithridge Street). Hours of Operation: Daily from 6:45 a.m.-10:15 p.m. (last run departs), both during the academic year and the summer months. No Service (weekends only, Saturday & Sunday) from 10:15 - 10:30 a.m. and 6:15 - 6:45 p.m. (drivers on break). All shuttles will leave from in front of Morewood Gardens on Morewood Avenue on the quarter hour and three-quarter hour: 7:15 a.m., 7:45 a.m., 8:15 a.m., etc. All shuttle routes take approximately 30 minutes to return to Morewood Gardens. Travel times will vary according to weather and traffic conditions, time of day and day of the week, and the number of stops required according to passenger load at any given time. During the summer months, the Oakland shuttle will operate on the AB route only. Designated Shuttle Stops
The PTC Shuttle Hours of Operation: Year-round, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.- 2:30 a.m.; Saturday & Sunday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. On weekdays, last run leaves PTC for campus at approximately 2:30 a.m.; on weekends, 5:30 p.m. NO SERVICE (driver on break) from Noon-1 p.m. & 8-9 p.m., Monday-Friday and 2-3 p.m. on Saturday & Sunday. New Service to LTV Steel, Hazelwood: On May 8, 2006, the PTC shuttle added a regular stop at what is now known as “Robot City,” the former LTV Steel location at 4170 Second Avenue in Hazelwood, where the Planetary Robotics Red Team is now housed. The shuttle will pick up/drop off hourly at the LTV site on the quarter and three-quarter hour. Passengers should board at the old Locomotive Shop. Service to BIRC: The PTC shuttle also provides service to the Brain Imaging Research Center building (BIRC), 3025 Carson Street, on a limited intermittent, on-request basis. To request to be picked up by the PTC shuttle, BIRC staff and employees must call the police dispatcher on the non-emergency number x8-6232. The dispatcher will contact the PTC shuttle driver by radio and advise the caller of the estimated time that the shuttle will arrive at BIRC. On the return trip from campus to BIRC, board the PTC shuttle at one of the two regular on-campus boarding points, and advise the driver of your destination. BIRC riders will be dropped off after the regular stop at PTC.
ESCORT Escort/Demand Service: Daily 6:30 p.m.-6:00 a.m. (last run starts) throughout the academic year and summer months, EXCEPT from 10:30-11:00 p.m. and 4:30-5:00 a.m. when NO ESCORT will be available (drivers on breaks). To be picked up, riders will be requested to wait at these locations. Upon returning to campus, the vans will stop by each of these locations momentarily to pick up riders. The vans will sound the horn to alert riders to come outside.
