Lieutenant Joseph Meyers
Lt. Meyers started his career in 1978 with the Metropolitan Police Dept., Washington, D.C. When he was there, he was assigned to Tactical Squad for two years. In 1981, Lt. Meyers joined the Dormont Borough Police Dept. In 1983, he joined the Pittsburgh Police Department. After serving three years in patrol, he was promoted to Detective and assigned to the Detective Bureau. During the next 25 years, he worked in Burglary Squad, Robbery Squad and served the last ten years in the Homicide Squad. During that time, he was promoted to various ranks of Detective, some of which included supervisory duties.
Lt. Meyers retired in January, 2011 as one of only three First Grade Detectives in the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.
His education includes a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master's Degree in Public Administration, both from the University of Pittsburgh. During his career, he has attended numerous and varied training and education programs.
