Crime Alert

#2006-2

September 1, 2006

THEFTS FROM WOMEN'S LOCKER ROOM - UNIVERSITY CENTER

One Tuesday, Aug. 29th, two thefts occurred from the women's locker room in the University Center. Both thefts occurred between 3-4:30 p.m. Stolen property included cash, credit cards, and other personal valuables.

There was a single common denominator in both thefts - i.e., the victims left their valuables completely unsecured in an unlocked locker.
:

CRIME PREVENTION TIPS:

  • Don't naively "trust your fellow man." Members of our own community are just as likely as an outsider/trespasser to steal an unattended item.
  • If you see anyone aimlessly wandering in/out of or around the UC locker rooms, or rummaging through a locker when he obviously isn't changing clothes, CALL UNIVERSITY POLICE IMMEDIATELY!! If there's no phone handy, immediately report the suspicious person to the Equipment Desk attendant or Skibo ranger. Give as detailed a physical description of the suspicious person and his clothing as possible.
  • Never leave a wallet - or a backpack, gym bag containing it - unattended anywhere inside the UC. That includes right next to you while lifting weights!
  • Always put a lock on your locker if you are putting anything worth stealing inside that locker, including expensive winter coats.

Please partner with University Police to make the University Center a safer, more secure place for everyone.
