September 26, 2006

ROBBERY - UNIVERSITY CENTER

On Monday, September 25th, a Carnegie Mellon student reported to University Police that after using the ATM near Entropy, he was robbed while in the first floor restroom near McConomy Auditorium. Between 2-2:30 p.m., the victim was approached from behind as he was entering a stall, knocked down, and his wallet was taken. The victim was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and later released.

Since the suspect approached suddenly from behind, the victim could only describe his assailant as a White male, 20-30 years old, 6 feet tall, dark hair. No clothing description was given.

If you see this suspect or anyone resembling him, particularly in or near the University Center, or have any information that might assist police in this case, please call Carnegie Mellon University Police at (412) 268-2323 immediately.

CRIME PREVENTION TIPS:

  • IIf you see anyone aimlessly wandering around or loitering in the University Center, or rummaging through a locker in one of the locker rooms when he or she obviously isn't changing clothes, IMMEDIATELY CALL UNIVERSITY POLICE or report the suspicious person to the attendant at the gym Equipment Desk or the Kirr Commons information desk. Give as detailed a physical description of the suspicious person and his/her clothing as possible.
  • When entering a restroom alone, look around first to see if anyone has come in behind you, and be aware of the presence and location of others using the facility.

Please partner with University Police to make the University Center a safer, more secure place for everyone.
