#2005-2 UPDATED

September 20, 2005

Suspicious Person - Arrested!

University Police were informed today that a suspect has been arrested by City of Pittsburgh Police and charged in connection with an Indecent Exposure that occurred at Chatham College on Sept. 6, 2005, the same day a related incident occurred on our campus.

Safety Alert #2005-2, "Suspicious Activity", issued to the university community on Sept. 8, 2005, described a Sept. 6th incident in which three Carnegie Mellon students were approached near Doherty Apartments by a man driving a silver Honda Accord displaying possible PA tags EMA 0103. Calling himself "Frank," an MTV employee, he asked the women if they would streak on camera for cash with an extra bonus if they would flash for the camera. The suspect returned at 4:00 p.m. that day for the camera shoot.

Charged in the Chatham case is:

Steven Ritenour
White male
33 years old
last known address on Philips St. in Squirrel Hill

A repeat offender, Ritenhour is awaiting trial on multiple charges. He was also positively identified as the suspect in the Sept. 6th incident near Doherty Apartments, although he is not charged with any crimes for his behavior on our campus. University Police will be contacting Ritenhour to serve him with a no-trespass/stay-away notice to discourage him from returning to our campus. If found on campus, he will be subject to immediate arrest.

If anyone sees Ritenhour's silver Honda Accord on or near the perimeter of campus at any time, notify University Police immediately. This information is being provided in response to past requests by students that they be advised when criminals named in our Alerts have been arrested and/or are no longer a threat to our community.
