Suspicious Person

University Police want to alert all students, especially female students, to be aware of a suspicious person who has been prowling Oakland campuses, attempting to lure women to his car.

At approximately 12 Noon on Tuesday, Sept. 6th, three female Carnegie Mellon University students were approached on the driveway to the Doherty Apartments’ parking lot by a lone male driving a silver Honda Accord displaying possible PA tags EMA 0103. The man was described as a white male, tan with a muscular build, 25-35 years old, clean shaven, shaved head, brown eyes and eyebrows, narrow face and long nose, was bare chested and wearing khaki shorts. Calling himself “Frank” and an employee of MTV, he asked the women if they would streak on camera for cash with an extra bonus if they would flash for the camera. “Frank” said he would return at 4:00 p.m. for the camera shoot. He pulled further into the parking lot, at which time he put on an orange shirt. The students then left. The man never got out of his car during the encounter. The same person was seen near Doherty Grad Apartments at 4:00 p.m. that afternoon by another student.

University Police considered this an isolated incident until notified yesterday that the same suspicious man approached two female students on the campus of Chatham College at 6:40 p.m. on Sept. 6th while driving the same car. The suspect was reportedly nude in the Chatham incident.

If you have any information about these incidents, if you see this person, or he attempts to engage you in conversation, please call University Police at (412) 268-2323 immediately! Refer to case #0509-1226.

Crime Prevention Tips

  • Stay alert to your surroundings at all times.
  • If someone in a car approaches or stops you and engages you in a conversation containing any sexual connotations or innuendos, or is not dressed appropriately for the season, time or place, immediately break off the conversation – walk away quickly – and notify University Police right away! If such a person tries to follow you, yell – scream – do anything to attract the attention of bystanders or passersby. If there is a Blue Light or yellow Emergency Phone nearby, use it!
