ROBBERY
5300 Block of Beeler Street

University Police received information early this morning from the Pittsburgh Police that a Carnegie Mellon student was robbed just off campus shortly after midnight.

At approximately 12:48 a.m., on Wednesday, December 6th, a male student was walking northbound in the 5300 block of Beeler Street, when a lone suspect called out to him from behind. When the victim stopped and turned to see what the person wanted, the suspect approached closely and demanded the victim's wallet. The suspect had his hand in the pocket of his sweatshirt as if he was holding a firearm. However, no firearm was displayed. After obtaining the victim's wallet, the suspect fled on foot south on Beeler Street. The victim was not harmed.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 30's, 5'11" tall, medium build, unshaven, wearing a blue hoodies and dark colored jeans. If you see this suspect or have any information about this case, notify University Police (412-268-2323) or Pittsburgh Police (911) immediately!

Although this crime occurred off campus, University Police felt it important to keep you informed so that you might take whatever steps you deem necessary to ensure your safety and the safety of your friends when off campus.

CRIME PREVENTION TIPS:

  • Stay alert to your surroundings at all times.
  • Always walk with a friend or roommate after dark.
  • If confronted by an assailant, don't resist. If he wants your wallet, purse or backpack, give it up. Money or property can be replaced - you can't be.
  • Ride the Escort service or utilize SAFE-Walk.
