Human Resources' Learning and Development will be introducing new programs and resources for staff starting this fall and is gathering input through an online survey. The Office of Institutional Research and Analysis recently e-mailed an invitation to all Pittsburgh campus staff with a link to the survey to gather preferences for professional development opportunities. All staff who did not participate will receive a reminder email with a new survey link early next week.
A summary report of the results will be posted on the Human Resources website this summer.
The Dean of University Libraries Search Committee is hosting candidate Keith Webster at 9 a.m., Friday, April 12 in the Grand Room of the Tepper School building. The entire campus community is invited to meet the candidate and attend his public presentation. Following the presentation, there will be time for questions and informal interaction.

Immediately following final exams this spring, the Sorrells Engineering & Science Library in Wean Hall will close temporarily for major renovations. Significant reconfiguration and improved lighting will create a more welcoming environment. Informal group study and quiet study areas will be added throughout the library. Plans to minimize the disruption of the three-month closure are being publicized directly to Sorrells Library constituencies. Alpha Chi Omega will host its annual Vera Bradley Sale from 2:30-6 p.m., Monday, April 22 in Danforth Lounge, University Center. Fifteen percent of every purchase will be donated to the Pittsburgh Women's Shelter. The sale is co-sponsored by Alpha Chi Omega and the Cheeks Boutique in Shadyside.
With the approach of warmer temperatures, FMS personnel have started to activate the campus cooling systems. Academic and administrative buildings have started to switch to cooling modes and all systems should be up and running by Wednesday, May 1. The Scott Hall project has impact on the cooling capacity for main campus. Due to design, once Warner Hall's heating system is activated the air conditioning cannot be turned back on. The Staff Council Grievance Committee has changed its name to the Relations and Grievance Advisory Committee to better reflect its mission and vision for CMU staff. The committee, comprised of Staff Council representatives, serves staff by providing information and resources to help staff achieve an engaging, rewarding and supportive work experience and a successful work-life balance. The committee strives to help all employees by fostering an ethical and respectful environment for all members of the university community. The committee provides information about the grievance process, supportive listening, non-judgmental feedback and referrals to university resources. The Masters in Product Development (MPD) program will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a special symposium on Friday, April 12 at the Singleton Room in Roberts Hall. Carnegie Mellon’s fitness program is offering adult group swimming sessions for beginners to learn to swim and for experienced swimmers to improve their stroke. Sessions will be held this month.

Carnegie Mellon’s Athletic Department will host its third annual Field Day from 12 to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 14 in Skibo Gym and Gesling Stadium. Children between the ages of 6 and 12 are invited to come, participate and have fun doing football, soccer, basketball and track drills with CMU student-athletes. T-shirts and lunch will be provided.
