Volunteers Needed for Intel Science and Engineering Fair

Intel Fair LogoPittsburgh will host 1,600 high school student finalists and their families from 65 countries for the 2012 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, May 13-18 at the David Lawrence Convention Center, and Judith Hallinen, chair of the Local Arrangements Committee, needs your help.

“Carnegie Mellon was involved in the proposal process, which led to Pittsburgh being selected as the host city for 2012, 2015 and 2018,” Hallinen said. “We’d like to have as much participation from CMU as possible as many of these high school students may be considering Carnegie Mellon for their post-secondary education.

“The fair provides many opportunities for faculty, students and staff to share their expertise and energy to ensure the event is a success,” Hallinen said.

She said individuals are needed to serve as judges — 1,000 are needed in 17 categories — interpreters and volunteers to assist with activities such as event setup, registration and greeting finalists at the airport and hotels, and to host lab and department tours on campus.
