Mentoring Program Applications Due Dec. 22

Women interested in supporting other women at Carnegie Mellon can do so through the Barbara Smith Women's Mentoring Program.

Since 1994, the program has matched more than 300 women willing to act as mentors for those who wish to be mentored. Mentor relationships center on professional interests and aspirations including, but not limited to, career advancement, educational opportunities and job-related issues.

Interested women are matched by evaluating the experience of the mentors with the needs of those being mentored, and then provided with the opportunity to meet.

The program was renamed this year in honor of Barbara B. Smith, former chief Human Resources officer at CMU for 22 years. She formed the program and retired earlier this year. Read more about her accomplishments in a June 2011 Piper article.

To apply for this volunteer program either as a mentor or a mentoree, fill out the information sheet at http://www.cmu.edu/hr/learning/forms/restrict/wswmentor.pdf and send it to Pattye Stragar at pls@andrew.cmu.edu or UC 146A. This year's deadline is Thursday, Dec. 22.
