As of Wednesday, Aug. 17, Carnegie Mellon's first-year class at the Pittsburgh campus is anticipated to be approximately 1,440 students from 26 countries and 43 states. About 46 percent of students are from the Middle Atlantic states, 14 percent are from Pennsylvania, 13 percent are from the West, 11 percent are from the South, 9 percent are from New England, 6 percent are from the Midwest, and about 4 percent are from the Southwest. International students make up about 11 percent of the class. About 100 students are expected to make up CMU's first-year class at the Qatar campus.
Traffic Advisory: The 5100 block of Margaret Morrison Street, between Forbes Avenue and Tech Street; and the 100 block of Tech Street, between Margaret Morrison Street and Schenley Drive, will be closed to through traffic from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21, to help students and their families during move-in day. Other areas expected to be very congested include the 1000 block of Morewood Avenue, between Fifth and Forbes avenues, and the 4700 block of Fifth Avenue. It is recommended that motorists avoid these areas if possible.
