Andy Award Nominations Now Being Accepted
The nomination period for the 2014 Andy Awards is now underway through July 9.
The Andy Awards, named for Andrew Carnegie and Andrew Mellon, are a tribute to the spirit of teamwork and dedication embodied by the staff at Carnegie Mellon. Individual staff members and teams of colleagues whose work has had a significant impact on the university are recognized for their outstanding performance and commitment to excellence through the Andy Awards program.
Awards are given in six categories: Commitment to Students, Community Contributions, Culture, Dedication, Innovation and University Citizenship.

Carnival To Remain on Morewood Lot in 2015
The Spring Carnival committee has announced that Carnival 2015 will be held on the Morewood parking lot, thus postponing Spring Carnival's move to the College of Fine Arts (CFA) parking lot, CFA lawn and Mall area (between Baker, Porter, Doherty and Hamerschlag halls) to 2016. A delay in construction of the Tepper Quadrangle will enable the Morewood parking lot to be available next spring. Read the full announcement.
Children's School Has Openings for 2014-15
Carnegie Mellon’s Children's School has half-day morning and afternoon pre-school places and full-day kindergarten places available for the upcoming school year. Libraries Leading ORCID Initiative @ CMU
Publishers and funding agencies are increasingly requiring researchers to have an ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor Identification) identifier. The University Libraries are leading an initiative to acquire ORCID IDs for all CMU researchers.
Two pilot ORCID acquisition projects are planned. The first will acquire ORCIDs for selected CMU researchers in Qatar this summer. The second will acquire ORCIDs for all researchers in the College of Engineering during the 2014 fall semester. ORCIDs will be acquired for other CMU researchers at a later date.

CMU Recognized for Excellence in Cybersecurity
After a rigorous review process, Carnegie Mellon has been issued designations as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance/Cyber Defense Education and Research through 2021. The National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security sponsor the Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) program and award the designations.
The CAE designations are awarded based on a center's abilities to advance cybersecurity research and to prepare students for future careers in defending and fortifying the nation's information infrastructure. Carnegie Mellon's academic offerings and interdisciplinary research activities at Carnegie Mellon CyLab were reviewed and met new CAE standards.
"Carnegie Mellon's programs help to prepare the next generation of cyber defenders, as proven by the success of our alumni," said Information Networking Institute (INI) Director Dena Haritos Tsamitis, who leads the university's CAE initiatives. "INI graduates in cybersecurity are sought after by employers and receive multiple offers when job hunting."
Silicon Valley Celebrates Software Management Program's 10th Anniversary
This year marks the 10th anniversary for the Master of Science in Software Management degree program at CMU's Silicon Valley campus. Recently incorporated into the university's new Integrated Innovation Institute, this interdisciplinary graduate program emphasizes a mix of business, technical and interpersonal skills to develop software professionals ready for leadership roles ranging from startups to international corporations.
The Integrated Innovation Institute and the College of Engineering are hosting an anniversary celebration and alumni reunion Sunday, June 22 at the Palo Alto headquarters of Tesla Motors. College of Engineering Dean James Garrett will attend to congratulate faculty, staff, students and alumni on 10 successful years. The co-directors of the Integrated Innovation Institute, Jon Cagan (College of Engineering), Peter Boatwright (Tepper School of Business) and Eric Anderson (College of Fine Arts) will moderate an alumni panel discussion on the multidisciplinary future of innovation. The CFO of Tesla, Deepak Ahuja (TPR '93), is the keynote speaker.
The software management program launched in 2003 as the MSIT in Management of Software Systems Development, a part-time program designed for mid-career software professionals working on large-scale systems development. The current master's degree curriculum and name was adopted in 2007, and the program has evolved to emphasize software and product development as practiced by the high-tech companies of Silicon Valley. A full-time program was added in 2011 with a specific focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. Including the Class of 2014, the program now has more than 300 graduates, among them software engineers, product managers and successful entrepreneurs. Many continue to work in the Bay Area, providing an invaluable professional network for fellow Silicon Valley campus and Bay Area alumni.
Documentary Screens at Green Film Festival in Korea
“Shipbreakers,” a documentary written and produced by the late Tepper School of Business Professor Paul Goodman, Entertainment Technology Center faculty member Ralph Vituccio, and director and cinematographer Tom Clancey, was recently screened at the 11th Green Film Festival in Seoul, Korea. The Green Film Festival in Seoul has been the only environmental film festival in Korea and the biggest one in Asia dedicated to introducing and promoting environmentally significant films to a wide audience.
In addition, "Shipbreakers" has been accepted as one of the finalists in the Third World International Film Festival (TWIFF). The TWIFF celebrates filmmakers worldwide whose topics deal with issues of the third world. The festival promotes awareness of social issues, helps individuals gain a deeper understanding and greater respect for different cultures, and provides a platform for filmmakers to introduce their films to the broadest possible audience. The film festival will take place in San Francisco and Silicon Valley this September.

Senior Citizens Needed for Dalcroze Eurhythmics Classes
Annabelle Joseph, director of the School of Music Dalcroze Training Center, is recruiting 15 active senior citizens to participate in classes in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, a method that engages brain and body in response to music.
Physical, mental, social and emotional well-being are essential as we age. All four are integrated in the fun-filled Dalcroze Eurhythmics classes as participants experience the joy of music.

EH&S To Conduct Building Evacuations July 3
To comply with the City of Pittsburgh’s All Hazards Plan, Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) will conduct building evacuations of four of CMU’s high-rise buildings on Thursday, July 3. The buildings and evacuation schedule is as follows:
• Mellon Institute, 9 a.m.;
• Gates/Hillman centers, 10 a.m.;
• Wean Hall, 11 a.m.;
• Hamerschlag Hall, 1 p.m.
An evacuation announcement will be made over the building’s public address system, followed by the sounding of the fire alarm. Once the fire alarm sounds, occupants should quickly leave the building via the nearest exit and assemble in the building’s designated assembly area, which can be found at http://www.cmu.edu/ehs/emergency-response/emergency-procedures/index.html.
Failure to leave a building when the fire alarm sounds is a violation of a City of Pittsburgh ordinance and can result in a fine and court appearance.

CMU Day at PNC Park, July 6
Carnegie Mellon Day at PNC Park will be Sunday, July 6, when the Pirates take on the Philadelphia Phillies at 1:35 p.m.
Sixty-five tickets in Section 305 are available for $18 each. Before the game, join fellow CMU community members at the #1 Cochran Family Fun Zone on Federal Street from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. CMU Pre-College students will be singing the national anthem.
Sundays are Kids Days and on this day children 14 years of age and younger will receive an Andrew McCutchen poster. Kids also get a chance to run the bases following the game, weather permitting.

The Library Awards Committee is accepting nominations from the CMU community for its Library Excellence Awards. The deadline for nominations is June 20.
The annual awards program recognizes library employees for excellence in any of five areas: Citizenship, Customer Satisfaction, Innovation, Outreach and Productivity.
