The university community is invited to attend a reception honoring Dean of University Libraries Gloriana St. Clair, who will become dean emeritus, effective July 1. The reception will be held from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 1 at the Posner Center. The party also will serve as the opening for an exhibit displaying the popular Carnegie Mellon University READ card and poster series, featuring members of the university community with their favorite books. Chien Ho, the Alumni Professor of Biological Sciences in the Mellon College of Science and director of the Pittsburgh NMR Center for Biomedical Research, has been awarded the 2013 Gold Medal of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) for his major research contributions to the field of magnetic resonance in biomedical sciences. The ISMRM is a multidisciplinary nonprofit association that promotes the innovation, development and application of magnetic resonance techniques in medicine and biology throughout the world. Ho will receive the award on April 22 at the society's annual meeting in Salt Lake City.

Anthony (Tony) Wasserman of Carnegie Mellon's Silicon Valley campus is the recipient of the Influential Educator Award from the Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group on Software Engineering (SIGSOFT) for pioneering software engineering curriculum. Wasserman, slated to receive the award May 24 at the 35th International Conference on Software Engineering in San Francisco, will be recognized for his early contributions to software engineering curriculum development and his extensive impact in software engineering methods, tools and management.

The Carnegie Mellon Women's Association recently awarded three $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors Courtney Wittekind (A'13), Catherine Byrd (S'13) and Margaret Schervish (CS'13). The tradition of the club giving scholarships began in 1964, and each year the Scholarship Chair works with deans and department heads to nominate outstanding senior undergraduate women.
