The CMU Credit Union is offering special rates for new and used car loans through Oct. 31. For new vehicles the rates are 2.5 percent for 36 months; 2.75 percent for 48 months; and 2.9 percent for 60 months. For used vehicles the rates are 3.53 percent for 2010-2011 models and 3.72 percent for 2004-2009 models. Pre-approved loans are good for 30 days.

Twenty individuals and three teams have been nominated for this year's Andy Awards, which recognize staff members for their outstanding performance and commitment to excellence in six categories — dedication, commitment to students, innovation, culture, university citizenship and community contributions. The Department of Athletics' Fitness Program is sponsoring a Wednesday Walking Challenge for students, faculty and staff from all academic and administrative departments during the month of October. Participants will walk from noon to 1 p.m. on the track in Gesling Stadium (rain location is Wiegand Gym, University Center). All walkers will receive a free gift from Panera while supplies last and can enter a raffle for a free Samsung Eternity Touchscreen cell phone. Sidewalk repairs on the north side of Forbes Avenue, from Morewood Avenue to Beeler Street, are scheduled to take place through Friday, Oct. 7. The sidewalk will be closed during repairs. Pittsburgh's Department of Public Works reports that milling and paving work on Fifth Avenue from Bellefield to Morewood will begin on Monday, Sept. 26. For more information contact the Public Works Department at 412-255-2434.

Staff Council has made arrangements for CMU students, faculty and staff to purchase "cheap seats" to the Calliope Folk Music Society's 2011-12 concert season. Buggy freeroll practices have begun on the weekends in Schenley Park. Practices take place on Saturdays (6 - 8:50 a.m.) and Sundays (6 - 9 a.m.) on Tech Street, Frew Street and Schenley Drive (weather permitting). During these times, vehicles will not be able to access or park on these roads. Practice dates are: Sept. 24; Oct. 1-2, 8-9, 15-16, 22-23, 29-30; Nov. 5-6, 12-13, 19-20; Feb. 4-5, 11-12, 18-19 & 25; March: 3-4, 17-18, 24-25 & 31; April 1, 7-8, 14-15. Spring Carnival is April 20-21.
