Ruth graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a major in Cognitive Science and minors in Computer Science and Education.  After graduation, she moved to rural Japan to teach English as a Foreign Language at a public high school for two years.
Ruth’s experiences teaching have helped shape her research goals.  Primarily she is interested in developing and implementing technical solutions for classroom environments that serve the needs of the students while also providing support and tools for teachers.
Ruth is excited about joining PIER, because of the interdisciplinary nature of the program.  She is looking forward to collaborating with a diverse group of researchers all working towards the common goal of improving education. People might be surprised to know that Ruth has climbed Mt Fuji and has aspirations to visit all seven continents.
