Jamie earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Miami, where she worked on several projects involving the Miami-Dade Head Start program. As her senior project, she collaborated with the Miami Science Museum to implement and evaluate the effectiveness of a preschool science curriculum on improving Head Start students' school readiness skills. Jamie continues to study early science education, specifically scientific curiosity. During her time here are CMU she developed a measure of exploratory curiosity. Her dissertation work includes a validation study of this measure, and will investigate the relationship between curiosity and question-asking, as well as include a training study to develop young children’s question-asking behavior. People might be surprised to know that Jamie is from Florida and has still not gotten used to cold winters, and that she became a mom this past April.
