Jamie Jirout, Psychology. (Advisor, David Klahr)
5th yr PIER-5th yr Psych
Jamie graduated in May of 2005 from the University of Miami with a B.A. in Psychology. During her undergraduate career she worked on several projects involving the Miami-Dade Head Start program. She collaborated with the Miami Science Museum to implement and evaluate the effectiveness of a preschool science curriculum on improving Head Start students' school readiness skills.
Jamie continues to study preschool children’s learning here at CMU. For the past four years, she has studied children’s scientific curiosity, and has recently developed a measure of exploratory curiosity. She hopes to continue this work as part of a dissertation project this year.
People might be surprised to know that Jamie learned to swim when she was only 3 months old and still enjoys swimming for hours in the ocean, but is scared to swim in lakes.
