Beth graduated from Shippensburg University in May of 2003 with a B.S. in Mathematics with a concentration in Statistics. During her undergrad career she was a supplemental instructor (sort of like a TA) and was part of the math department's volunteer tutor team. If Beth hadn't come to graduate school for Statistics, she would have gotten her Masters in Education and followed many of her friends into teaching high school mathematics.
In May of 2005 Beth received her Masters in Statistics from CMU and is now in her fourth year in the Statistics Department. In the Spring of 2004, Beth did a small research project on the StatTutor and realized that she could do Statistics and still be involved in Education! For the past 18 months Beth has been a part of the Assistments Project with Brian Junker and Ken Koedinger. She has been working on predicting end-of-year exam scores from student performance on on-line math tutors. In July Beth presented some of her work at the AAAI conference in Boston.
People might be surprised to know that Beth was the Co-Commissioner of the summer graduate student softball league last summer and will be taking over next year.
