Animals in Research
Maintaining humane animal care in research and teaching is a dynamic endeavor and requires conscientious adherence to animal welfare regulations. Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) follows the regulations and guidelines of the Animal Welfare Act and the Public Health Service Policy.
All research, teaching and testing involving the use of animals must be reviewed and approved by the CMU Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) before the research can be initiated. No animal experimentation or use is permitted at CMU without review and written approval by the IACUC. Call the Regulatory Compliance Administration at 412-268-5460 or 412-268-1901 for answers to questions regarding the IACUC, use of animals or the review process.
