S8220 All Austen. Jane Purifoy, Study Leader
Presentation of the best of the movies made of Jane Austen's novels, discussion of her observations and characters.

S8306 New Companies Started at Carnegie Mellon. Robert Conway, Study Leader
Presentation of how university research projects result in making the leap from the lab to the business world and how Carnegie Mellon assists with the growth of new businesses. Interviews with entrepreneurs and visits to startup companies are included.

S8324 Rachel Carson’s Environmental Ethic and Relevance Today. Patricia DeMarco, Study Leader
Examination of Rachel Carson’s controversial work as a scientist, writer and woman at the turn of the 19th century.

Discussions will focus on themes of her work and their application to today’s environmental issues. Film footage and a tour of the Rachel Carson homestead in Springdale are included.

S8314 Urban Mushrooming. Dick Dougall, Study Leader
General presentation of mushroom biology, classification, identification and ecology. Several classes will be devoted to hunting for mushrooms on campus and in Schenley Park. A field trip to Frick Park is also included.
