Track 2: Developing Effective Online Courses Using OLI Tools and Processes Apply for Track 2

This workshop track is intended for faculty or institutional instructional technology groups who want to build effective "OLI-like" online courses using the OLI development and delivery environment.

This track is designed for development teams of at least 2-3 people, a faculty content expert, a technology support person, and an instructional designer or learning scientist.

By the end of the workshop, the team will have completed a working module of their new course and will be set up with the required tools and processes to complete the course on their own time following the workshop.

Although we find development teams work best, we will consider applications from individual faculty content experts or individuals from instructional technology groups who have a sufficient degree of technical competence.

In this track we will:

  • discuss cognitive principles of effective online course design.
  • set up your computer with all of the tools you need to create an effective "OLI-like" online course.
  • learn how to use the OLI authoring and course building tools to create course structure, materials, assessments, activities and mini-tutors.
  • learn a process for developing effective courses.

To participate in this track:

  • At least one member of the development team must have basic skills in each of the following technologies: UNIX, XML and Flash.
  • Bring the computer with a wireless network card onto which we will load the authoring environment and tools.
