Fall 2016 International Graduate Orientation

Carnegie Mellon will welcome over 2,000 new international students this fall.  In order to accommodate the large number of students, we offer a number of orientation sessions.  All F-1 and J-1 students are required to attend one session from the list of dates below.  Seating is limited and registration is required.

All International Graduate Orientation sessions will all be the SAME.  Register for only one session. Sesssions will be held:                     

Friday, August 26               12:00 am to 2:00 pm

Wednesday, August 31      12:00 pm to 2:00 pm

Tuesday, September 6       12:00 am to 2:00 pm

Students must bring the following documents to International Graduate Orientation: 

  • Completed International Student Data Form
  • Original I-20 (F-1 students) or DS-2019 (J-1 students)
  • Photocopy of page 1 of the I-20 or DS-2019
  • Photocopy of passport (identification page only)
  • Photocopy of F-1 or J-1 visa in passport
  • Photocopy of passport page with port of entry stamp
  • I-94 record (Note: this document can only be printed after entry to the U.S.)
  • Photocopy of SEVIS fee receipt (optional)

Visiting Scholar Orientation:

Visiting Scholar Orientation is held on most Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. in the Office of International Education (OIE), Warner Hall, third floor. At orientation, we will review required immigration information, as well as campus and local resources.  Call OIE at 412-268-5231 or stop by the front desk to register your attendance for the Scholar Orientation.  All J-1 visitors are required to attend this orientation program.

New visiting scholars should bring the following documents to Scholar Orientation:
