Naval Birthday Ball 2011

The United States Navy was created on October 3, 1775. The Steel City NROTC battalion celebrates its birth by participating in an annual Naval Birthday Ball. The Pittsburgh Navy League hosts the event and invites many people such as Pittsburgh Navy recruiters, JROTC cadets, and NROTC midshipmen. Navy and Nurse option midshipmen attend the event in their service dress blue uniform. There is a formal dinner followed by a brief speech and dancing.

A moment of silence for prisoners of war and missing in action service members is only one of many traditions held at the Navy Birthday Ball. The Navy’s birthday cake is cut together by the youngest and oldest sailor attending, unifying past, present, and future sailors. The annual Naval Birthday Ball is an opportunity for sailors of all ages and backgrounds to come together and celebrate their heritage.
