ROTC Blood Drive Challenge

Established in 1951, the Central Bank is a non-profit organization based in Pittsburgh, devoted to accumulating precious platelets and plasma for transfusions in local Pittsburgh Hospitals.  The demand for human blood is constantly increasing.  Realizing this, the midshipmen of Carnegie Mellon’s NROTC unit team up to donate blood to this excellent cause.

The Central Blood Bank devised a friendly competition amongst the local ROTC units.  All of the ROTC units realized that this would be an excellent opportunity to help the community.  Additionally, the competition would serve a secondary need, providing bragging rights to the wining RTOC organization.  Each semester the ROTC units engage in this friendly competition. Traditionally, CMU NROTC has made the greatest contribution and continues to do so.  This takes place twice per year, in February and October.

These donations resulted in CMU NROTC’s victory over the ROTC units.  But more importantly the contributions by the midshipmen and cadets went to the aid of those in need.
