Event: The investiture of Dr. Subra Suresh as the ninth president of Carnegie Mellon University will take place on Friday, Nov. 15. Delegates from U.S. and international universities will join CMU faculty, trustees and members of the university community in procession at this formal academic ceremony. In addition to President Suresh's inaugural address, the event will include a keynote address by Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt, a former university trustee, and a performance by Tony Award-winner and School of Drama alumna Patina Miller (A'06).
Prior to the ceremony, President Suresh will deliver opening remarks at a symposium titled "Opportunities and Challenges in Energy and Climate." Raymond Lane, chairman of CMU's Board of Trustees and partner emeritus at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, will moderate a panel discussion featuring John P. Holdren, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy; Marcia McNutt, editor-in-chief of Science; and several faculty members affiliated with CMU's Scott Institute for Energy Innovation and Steinbrenner Institute for Environmental Education and Research. A poster session on related university research will bookend the event.
Symposia and discussions are planned throughout President Suresh's inaugural year with the theme of "Crossing Boundaries, Transforming Lives."
