Event: Carnegie Mellon University engineering students will honor Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Photo Editor Tony Tye for more than 17 years of photography excellence.

Celia Ludwinski, operations manager for the university's student newspaper, The Tartan, and a senior in biomedical and chemical engineering, will present Tye with the second annual Shutterbug Award for excellence in photography and multimedia. The goal of the award is to inspire CMU student photographers to tell stories about the school and daily life through photographs.

Tye, who is scheduled to discuss the finer points of photography and photojournalism, is a veteran newspaper photographer with years of experience covering news events from floods and fires to the natural environment.

The event is sponsored by the College of Engineering, The Society of Women Engineers and the CMU Department of Media Relations. The public is invited to the event. Lunch will be served.

When: Noon, Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Where: The Singleton Room, Roberts Engineering Hall, Carnegie Mellon University, off Frew Street, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15213.
