PITTSBURGH—Andrew Shaindlin, founder of the international consulting firm Alumni Futures and alumnifutures.com, the first blog devoted to the profession of alumni relations, has been named associate vice president for Advancement, and associate vice president for Alumni Relations and Annual Giving at Carnegie Mellon University, which has more than 86,500 alumni around the world.
Shaindlin succeeds Jay Price, a 1966 Carnegie Mellon graduate and retired Proctor & Gamble executive who served as associate vice president for Advancement and director of Alumni Relations on an interim basis for the past two years.
“Carnegie Mellon has made tremendous strides in connecting alumni to the university, and connecting alumni to each other, specifically through its Loyal Scot Program, which recognizes alumni for their involvement. I’m very excited to help Carnegie Mellon continue to increase alumni involvement and support,” said Shaindlin, a trustee of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and past chair of the Commission on Alumni Relations, an international advisory group that supports CASE.
“Andy is one of the top experts, internationally, on alumni engagement, and his emphasis on the role of technology makes him a particularly good match for Carnegie Mellon,” said Vice President for Advancement Robbee Baker Kosak. “He’s one of the most innovative alumni relations professionals in the field today, and we are pleased to have him lead our alumni relations efforts.”
Shaindlin was executive director of the Alumni Association at the California Institute of Technology from 1999 to 2010. Prior to his time at Caltech, he worked in alumni relations at the University of Michigan and Brown University.
Shaindlin earned a bachelor's degree from Brown and a master's degree in education from Claremont Graduate University.
