Kathy Newman is a popular culture and mass culture expert primarily interested in the relationship between television, film, radio and print media and social and political formations. Her research focuses on:
- explaining mass culture;
- contemporary television and reality programming;
- the history of television and radio;
- controversies surrounding gender, race, ethnicity and class in contemporary popular culture; and
- parenting — popular culture representations and cultural controversies.
