Garrett's expertise is in sensor data-driven approaches for infrastructure condition assessment and decision-making, decision support systems and advanced analytics for infrastructure assessment.
Garrett and his colleagues and students have developed new approaches for understanding condition problems in a variety of infrastructure systems, such as HVAC systems in buildings (with Burcu Akinci and Mario Berges), water distribution networks (with Lucio Soibelman and J. Curtis Neil), wastewater collection systems (with Soibelman), and metal natural gas pipelines (with Irving Oppenheim, Jose Moura and Soibelman).
Most recently, he and his colleagues are working on an approach for using data from vehicles to assess the structural condition of bridges (with Jacobo Bielak and Jelena Kovacevic).
