J. Erik Jonsson University Professor of Urban Systems and Operations Research; Former Dean of the Heinz School

A renowned criminologist for more than 40 years, Blumstein has been awarded the prestigious Stockholm Prize for Criminology, which is considered the "Nobel Prize of criminology." He is often quoted in national publications based on his research in crime trends, criminal careers, sentencing, deterrence and incapacitation, prison populations, demographic trends, juvenile violence and drug-enforcement policy. He is a University Professor of urban systems and operations research at Carnegie Mellon and is the former dean of CMU's Heinz College.
