Carnegie Mellon scientist Richard McCullough explained the science behind plastics electronics and the booming markets for these materials at last week's annual meeting of the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing in Baltimore. McCullough, dean of the Mellon College of Science and discoverer of the most widely studied conducting polymer, addressed current and future applications, including organic lighting, solar cells and chemosensors to detect small amounts of hazardous gases.
