Last Second Heartbreaker

Junior Chris Zajac’s fade-away jumper with three tenths of a second on the clock lifted the John Carroll Blue Streaks to a 76-74 victory over Carnegie Mellon in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament in front of a sellout crowd of 1,300 at Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center in Cleveland this past Saturday night. The Tartans were led by senior Ryan Einwag’s 20 points.

The Tartans reached the second round by defeating SUNY Brockport on Friday, March 6, in double overtime 75-70. The win was the Tartans’ first NCAA Division III tournament victory in school history.

Carnegie Mellon ended the season with a 20-7 overall record, which ties the school mark for most wins in a season.  For more on the Tartans, see
