The people I know
Researchers at the University of Chicago have found that loneliness exacts a physical toll on the body that accumulates over time. This sounds similar to work done by Carnegie Mellon psychologist Sheldon Cohen, who has found that the more sociable a person is, and the more diverse social networks they have, the less likely they will be to become ill. Cohen runs the university's Laboratory for the Study of Stress, Immunity and Disease.
