The fourth edition of the The (London) Times Higher Education Supplement-QS World University Rankings includes a strong showing for Carnegie Mellon. In his introduction to the rankings, Times writer Martin Ince reports that far from being ivory towers, the world's universities are "active in generating new technology and ideas across a wide range of subject areas." While universities in the U.S. and the UK tended to be home to the top universities, universities from Canada, Australia, Japan and Hong Kong fared well. Carnegie Mellon was recognized for its impact in the arts and humanities, engineering and information technology, life sciences and biomedicine, natural sciences and social sciences.
