Carnegie Mellon University

That's Carnegie Mellon to you, pal

That's Carnegie Mellon to you, pal

There's a controversy brewing at Central Michigan University over a student's campaign to force a professor who is running for Congress to resign his teaching position. The student has even posted videos on YouTube that show a confrontation over the matter with a university dean.

What, pray tell, does this have to do with Carnegie Mellon? Well, Central Michigan University happens to be known by the acronym "CMU", leading at least one local news reporter to mistakenly believe these incidents had occurred here at Carnegie Mellon. (Many headlines and web links related to the events at Central Michigan have used this acronym.) Officially, we do not use the letters CMU to refer to the university, but many people do -- including most people in the Pittsburgh region, many of our students and even some faculty and staff.

So while technically we are not CMU, to some people we will always be CMU. Just not that CMU
