Laurie WeingartPITTSBURGH—Laurie R. Weingart has been named the Carnegie Bosch Professor of Organizational Behavior and Theory at Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business. The honor was bestowed today at a reception highlighted by remarks from University President Jared L. Cohon, Tepper School Dean Kenneth B. Dunn and Carnegie Bosch Institute President Sylvia B. Vogt.
   
The Carnegie Bosch Chair of Organizational Behavior and Theory distinguishes academic excellence, recognizes significant contributions to the field of organizational behavior, and commemorates the distinctive relationship between the Tepper School of Business and the Bosch Group through the Carnegie Bosch Institute (CBI).
   
"Laurie is a recognized researcher, a popular professor, a mentor to junior faculty, a collaborator across the Carnegie Mellon campus, and a true innovator in her academic field," Dunn said. "I've been both impressed and grateful for Laurie's consistent readiness to step up and volunteer for initiatives that benefit the school and our students."
   
"Recognizing Laurie Weingart as a Carnegie Bosch Chair adds a notable organizational behavior scholar to the institute's research committee," Vogt said. "With Laurie, we are winning a popular and effective teacher who has already been contributing to the CBI leadership seminars for a number of years."
  
Professor Weingart's primary research is in the study of groups, focusing on team dynamics, strategic behavior in negotiation, interdisciplinary teams and innovation processes within teams. An author who has been widely published by top-tier academic journals, her work includes a groundbreaking 2004 paper published in the Journal of Applied Psychology that became a catalyst for disrupting the conventional wisdom regarding the impact of task conflict and relationship conflict upon team performances. This analysis received an award form the Conflict Management Division of the Academy of Management in 2009 as the "most influential article over a three year period" in its academic field.
   
Weingart joined the faculty at the Tepper School of Business in 1989 after earning her Ph.D. and master's degree in organizational behavior from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and her bachelor's degree in industrial psychology from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. In addition to her work with researchers across the Carnegie Mellon campus, she also serves as founding president of the Interdisciplinary Network for Group Research, chair of the Conflict Management Division of the Academy of Management, and as a member of several editorial boards for journals in social psychology and management.
