Carnegie Mellon Engineering Students To Dedicate
Race Car in Memory of Fallen Pittsburgh Police Officers
Event: Carnegie Mellon University’s Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE) Race Team will dedicate its formula-one-style race car to the memory of Pittsburgh Police officers Eric G. Kelly, Stephen J. Mayhle and Paul J. Sciullo II, who were killed last month responding to a 911 call in the city’s Stanton Heights section.
The students are raising money for the fallen officers’ families in a campaign called “A Penny for your Memories.” Donations will be collected in a homemade wishing well constructed for the event. Ceremonial bagpipers will play as students, Pittsburgh Police officers and Carnegie Mellon Police help engrave the memorial patch on the race vehicle. Students also will demonstrate the speed and agility of the SAE race car. The event is open to the public. Refreshments will follow the ceremony.
When: 11:30 a.m., Thursday, May 7.
Where: Scaife Hall Garden (off Frew Street), Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15213.
