Carnegie Mellon To Host Leading Global Energy Economist Peter Tertzakian
As Keynote Speaker For National Global Warming Solutions Conference
Event: Carnegie Mellon University will host Peter Tertzakian, author of "A Thousand Barrels A Second" and chief energy economist of international investment firm ARC Financial Corp. Tertzakian will brief the news media about the challenges facing an energy dependent world Feb. 4 in the Dilks Library of Roberts Hall of Engineering.
Tertzakian, who lives in Calgary, Alberta, one of the world's leading oil and gas centers, will discuss how an additional 75 million people born each year in the world will force energy demand to increase, not fall. He will also discuss some of the biggest challenges facing North America's gas markets even though natural gas production has declined from 16 billion cubic feet per day to 14 billion cubic feet per day this year.
Tertzakian's visit, part of a three-day conference called "Focus the Nation," is designed to increase the public's interest about energy and climate issues. His visit is sponsored by Carnegie Mellon's College of Engineering, the Steinbrenner Institute for Environmental Education and Research, the Carnegie Mellon Graduate Student Association, the Institute for Advanced Energy Solutions and the University Lecture Series.
When: 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 4.
Where: Dilks Library, Roberts Hall of Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University, off Frew Street and Schenley Park, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15213.
