Traffic Advisory: Two Oakland Streets To Close Aug. 16
As First-Year Students Move in at Carnegie Mellon

PITTSBURGH—Two Oakland streets adjacent to the Carnegie Mellon University campus will be closed to through traffic from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16, to accommodate approximately 1,454 Carnegie Mellon first-year students who will be moving into their dormitories for a weeklong orientation program and the start of the fall semester.

The affected streets are: the 5100 block of Margaret Morrison Street, between Forbes Avenue and Tech Street; and the 100 block of Tech Street, between Margaret Morrison Street and Schenley Drive.

In addition, the 1000 block of Morewood Avenue, between Fifth and Forbes avenues, is expected to be very congested, and it is recommended that motorists avoid this area if possible.

Carnegie Mellon's orientation program is designed to make the transition to college easier for students and parents by introducing them to the campus and local community. Family-focused programs and a welcome from President Jared L. Cohon and Dean of Student Affairs Karen Boyd are scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 16.

Throughout the week (Aug. 16-23) students will participate in on-campus activities related to student life and academics. The orientation program also includes visits to area cultural attractions and tours of local neighborhoods.
