Oct. 29: Carnegie Mellon Students Host Region's First Bhangra Competition

Host Region's First Bhangra Competition

EVENT: Teams from 10 colleges across the nation will perform at the region's first Bhangra in the Burgh competition, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University's Mayur-South Asian Student Alliance and Pittsburgh's Chak De Bhangra Team. Bhangra is a lively folk dance that originated in the Punjab region of India and Pakistan. Teams will compete for $5,250 in cash, while money raised from ticket sales will benefit the Homeless Children's Education Fund of Allegheny County. The event is part of Carnegie Mellon's International Festival, which takes place Nov. 1-3. Additional information can be found at www.bhangraintheburgh.com.
