Please Note Traffic Alert
EVENT: Carnegie Mellon University will hold its annual Spring Carnival Thursday, April 19 through Saturday, April 21. The Sweepstakes buggy races, a tradition since 1920, will be held Friday and Saturday morning, April 20–21. If inclement weather causes the cancellation of Friday and Saturday competition, races will be held Sunday, April 22. The university will also host numerous activities throughout the weekend on the "Midway."
This year, three Carnegie Mellon groups are collaborating to provide live coverage of the buggy races. cmuTV will broadcast full-scale event coverage, including a NASCAR-style video production featuring more than 10 cameras, on channel 17. The student radio station, WRCT 88.3 FM, will also provide coverage of the live action, including interviews and play-by-play commentary. The competition will also be streamed online, thanks to the use of End System Multicast (ESM) software, which allows for massive viewing of streaming Internet video content at minimal cost. DVDs of the races from 2003 to the present will be available. Details on obtaining the ESM software, watching the feed and ordering DVDs can be found at www.cmuTV.org/buggy/.
