After a three-year residency (2005-2008) at Carnegie Mellon in Kobe, Japan, Nicolas relocated to Pittsburgh where he now oversees academic responsibilities at the INI as the Associate Director. He also serves as a faculty member and a Senior Systems Scientist at CyLab.
Nicolas is the Faculty Advisor for a number of INI programs, providing critical advice and support to students during their pursuit of their graduate programs.
Nicolas received a Diplôme d'Ingénieur (1999) from École Centrale de Lille, a Master's (2000) and a Ph.D. (2003) in Computer Science from the University of Virginia. In the final year (2002-2003) of his Ph.D., he worked at Nortel. From 2003-2005, Nicolas was a postdoctoral fellow in the School of Information at University of California, Berkeley, before joining Carnegie Mellon in July 2005. His research interest is in computer and information systems networks. Most of his work is at the boundary of systems and policy research, with a definitive slant toward security aspects.
