X-ray Computed Tomography Facility

Welcome to the website of the X-ray Computed Tomography Facility (XCTF) at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The XCTF is a user facility that is open to researchers at Carnegie Mellon, other academic institutions, national labs, and industry on a user-fee based system. The facility features cutting edge nano-CT instrumentation for the highest resolution 3D X-ray imaging available outside of synchroton beamline facilities. Our nano-CT has a resolution of up to 50 nm. The advantage of X-ray CT is that it enables non-destructive, 3D imaging of an opaque material's internal structure in ambient and controlled environments. The facility is used in applications ranging from materials science, chemistry, nano-/micro-fabrication, energy technology, geology, atmospheric particle science, bio-medical, etc.

If you are interested in using equipment in the facility please don't hesitate to contact us.
