Professor Burak Ozdoganlar Named Director of ICES

Congratulations Dr. Burak Ozdoganlar, Ver Planck Professor of Mechanical Engineering, on being named the Director of CMU's Institute for Complex Engineered Systems (ICES).  Dr. Ozdoganlar also holds courtesy appointments in Biomedical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering.

Professor Ozdoganlar succeeds and will report to Gary Fedder, Associate Dean for Research (ADR) in the College of Engineering, while continuing the ICES mission to catalyze multidisciplinary research projects across the college that help build and sustain strong research relationships with industry and government agencies.

Ozdoganlar’s Multiscale Manufacturing and Dynamics Laboratory (MMDL) focuses on manufacturing science and engineering, including advanced manufacturing, micro- and nano-manufacturing, and additive manufacturing. The overarching objective of our research is to realize scientific and technological advances for predictable manufacturing of multiscale (meso/micro/nano) three-dimensional devices, parts and features. The laboratory also works on vibrations modeling and experimentation, with particular emphasis on multi-scale structures and analytical methods; and precision engineering, with a focus on dimensional, surface, and rotational metrology.
