Freedman Awarded NSERC Postgraduate AwardPh.D. student Justin Freedman has been awarded the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)Postgraduate Scholarship Doctoral Award for his studies in mechanical engineering. NSERC, the Canadian equivalent of the National Science Foundation, provides funding to high-caliber students who are engaged in doctoral programs in the natural sciences or engineering.
Justin is a part of Assistant Professor Jon Malen's group researching nano-scale thermal transport in bulk structures. His focus is the measurement of heat-carrying phonons through semiconductor materials. He and his group aim to find out why a material's thermal properties change in nanostructures.
