MechE Alum Creates Heart Valve Start-Up

MechE alumnus Doug Bernstein, along with CMU grads Arush Kalra and Jaime Quinterno, have founded Peca Labs to create a new kind of pediatric heart valve.   The small office is beginning to gather more supporters with news of backing from Innovation Works in July.  The team hopes to bring their device, which will affect a small number of children undergoing a rare heart surgery, to market using FDA's Humanitarian Device Exception.
