Scott Institute Releases Shale Gas Guide

MechE Department Head and Raymond J. Lane Distinguished Professor Allen Robinson joined a team of researchers today on Capitol Hill to present the Scott Institute for Energy Innovation's recently released guide on shale gas and the environment.  They are hoping to encourage U.S. national, regional and state officials to establish a government-university-industry research and education initiative to inform the public about issues surrounding shale gas and the environment so the nation can better prepare for its energy future.

The initiative would reduce duplication of research efforts, help to create conflict of interest policies, and provide crucial information to policymakers.  In addition to Professor Robinson, the team includes: Jeanne VanBriesen, professor of civil and environmental engineering; Michael Griffin, associate professor of EPP and the Tepper School of Business, and executive director of the Green Design Institute; and Austin Mitchell, a Ph.D. student in EPP.
