MechE Computer Cluster Reopened to Students

Renovated Cluster
Renovated Cluster

The MechE Student Computer Cluster in Hamerschlag Hall (HH C101) was renovated during the 2011-2012 winter break.  The cluster reopened at 1:00 pm on January 24.  The new space has improved hardware and specialty software used in coursework and research, two monitors per tower, and a new area designed to facilitate teamwork and group projects.  The atmosphere of the renovated cluster provides a better, more open work environment, with more light and an improved heating, ventilating and air conditioning system.

In order to offer more flexibility, the renovated room can be used  as one large room, or two rooms separated by glass doors which can be either open or closed.  In the closed door configuration, each room can be used separately and can be accessed through its own door from the hallways.  The small room contains 14 computers and the large one 31 computers (including the instructor’s computer), for a total of 45 stationary computers. 10  Additional laptop stations are also available on the sides of the large room and additional chairs have been purchased for extra seating as well.   A TV will be mounted in the large room for the possibility of lectures in the room.
