de Boer and Team Win at Sandia Labs Competition

Mechanical engineering students Vitali Brand, Henry Kung, Sam Powers and Emrecan Soylemez of Associate Professor Maarten de Boer were honored as the best submission in the "Educational Category" for a unique computer-aided micro-machine design at the prestigious Sandia National Laboratories University Alliance Design Competition in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  The students' project was entitled "Pressure-sensitive microvalve."  Students learn computer-aided design software that enables the design of real micromechanical parts in Professor de Boer's course "Experimental Micro- and Nanomechanics" in addition to learning how to model and test micro- and nanomechanical structures.  Please join the department in congratulating this successful team!
